Americans each have taxied to the dark side in recent years. Vice President Cheney, with the blessings of George W. Bush, was our guide. We were the followers. Citizens of the United States claim to care. Yet, collectively, we allow an Administration to torture detainees in Guantanamo Bay and at Abu Ghraib prison. Our fellow countrymen once honored the Rules of the Geneva Convention. This standards are now thought quaint. Americans no longer subscribe to the theory that intentional physical and psychological torment is a abhorrent. Violations of human dignity are accepted, even endorsed.

Dear President George W. Bush . . .

I was among the Americans willing to settle for some semblance of support for the troops. I was willing to say bring them home months from now; although it seems to me a time in 2008 is more than a year. Nevertheless, I called my Congressman and said please sign on to the silly Bill, the one setting an absurd and somewhat arbitrary time for bring the soldiers home. However, in each of my conversations with Congressional Aides, I added my truer feelings. I want the funds cut! It seems that now, you do as well.

Please indulge me, allow me to make a comparison that may seem obscure to some. Surely, the Bush/Cheney clan has yet to grasp what others and I have said for years. Humans are harming the balance of nature! We can choose to deny this. Citizen of the world can see them selves as separate from nature; however, we are one. A report released today by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations, validates this "claim." I offer this analogy in hopes that a personal realization may make the point more profoundly.

Weight loss may be equated with global warming. Those of us that have lost tonnage know that for years, months, or weeks few notice the pounds dropping away. We are aware of the subtle changes because we choose to be. When we work to be sensitive to the mind/body connection, when we work to honor each of these separate entities as one, we become aware of the nuances that surround change.

Jim Webb thankfully did speak for the Left and from the heart. I had my fears for the newly elected Senator does have a hawkish past. Senator Webb is known to be a warrior and while he has advocated against the fight in Iraq. His history gave me reason for apprehension. After all the man was Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. Later he served as Secretary of the Navy. Jim Webb was a devout Republican, and rarely are those of that political ilk active pacifists as I am.

An Associated Press – America Online poll reveals, sixty-six percent of Americans think the country is on the wrong track. It is now infinitely clear Democrats and Independents are not alone. Some Republicans object to the war in Iraq. The findings of this newer study conclude wranglings within this country disturb those on the right, perhaps as much as they have those on the left and in the middle. Health care, the economy, Iraq, and terrorism are the issues that cause Americans great concern. The situation in this country is grim. As President Bush prepares to speak to the nation he, or the pollsters, realize he has little support.

We never know what might help in our campaign to regain America. None of us can predict what might assist and what might hinder our efforts. We can only choose to act on what we believe in. Vocal activist may choose one path; the more quiet voices may state their support in other manners. I offer an alert, a way in which you might contribute to the cause.

This method may not be your chosen means for expression; that is fine. However, I think we agree, the World Cannot Wait! Thus, I present a communiqué I received. The organization, the World Can’t Wait is asking for your assistance. You might donate to sponsor a USA Today information advertisement. You might join a mass protest. You might hold a fund-raising party. The Bush Crimes Commission is about to release their findings; people may be motivated by this case.

There are many ways available to you. Please choose your own. This is just one possibility for re-claiming America. You may have other ideas. I only offer this for those that might find it interesting.

A building in New York City is buried. Fires are blazing. It is highly possible people were killed or injured. The public speculates. Could it be a bomb blast, an act of terrorism, homegrown or international? Might the cause be a gas leak or an electrical explosion? Perhaps, it is a crime of vengeance. Early on, suicide was not considered. For me, while the cause is important, it pales in comparison to the fact.

War is in the air; it blows with the wind. Acts of violence travel. They cannot be isolated or contained to lands far from our shores. If we accept war anywhere, we consent to it here. Warfare is not a concept; it is concrete. Combat comes easily to the minds of men or women in conflict. Witness today, yesterday, and everyday. We as a nation are at war. While the struggle is far from our shores, it looms large in our collective psyche.
