Tis Sunday, September 28, 2008. The weather is warm and word on the streets is warmer. Fire from Hades, fervor, and fury heat the debate heard on the streets and in the halls of Congress. Businesses fail. Banks do too. Bailouts are planned and these too falter. Those in the White House are red hot with concern. People in Treasury Department and within Secretary Henry Paulson's office sense the burn. Many fear they too will be scorched. The flames are intense on the Hill. Yet, on American avenues many feel, while inflamed by the rhetoric, chilled at the prospect that this immediate need for a bailout is but a hoax or perchance, just hype.

Tis true. For days, if not weeks, months, or years the country has been in a state of financial crisis. Americans experience what it means when the President of the United States says he will act boldly. Economically, he has been brazen. Our current Chief Executive unabashedly embraces businesses, just as he had in his private pursuits before he entered the Oval Office. Bush policies allow corporations to run free. If need be, he says, as he did early on in his Administration, Let the bailouts begin.

Please indulge me, allow me to make a comparison that may seem obscure to some. Surely, the Bush/Cheney clan has yet to grasp what others and I have said for years. Humans are harming the balance of nature! We can choose to deny this. Citizen of the world can see them selves as separate from nature; however, we are one. A report released today by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations, validates this "claim." I offer this analogy in hopes that a personal realization may make the point more profoundly.

Weight loss may be equated with global warming. Those of us that have lost tonnage know that for years, months, or weeks few notice the pounds dropping away. We are aware of the subtle changes because we choose to be. When we work to be sensitive to the mind/body connection, when we work to honor each of these separate entities as one, we become aware of the nuances that surround change.

It is the close of the year and books are opened. Companies, both private and public are looking at their ledgers. They assess their assets, gains, and losses. Periodicals are filled with reports of folly. May I share just a few? City Fails to Collect Millions for Water, Fannie Mae Ex-Officers Sued by U.S., Failed hedge funds make a big noise. The list goes on.

My reaction; I am not surprised. Years ago I was dating a man, a marvelous specimen of a person. He was bright, personable, loving, and truly amazing. I suspect he still is. Tom was the Vice President of a small; yet successful business. Millions of dollars passed through this company's hands perhaps daily, maybe it was monthly. I know not for sure. I am not much of a marketing person. My mind travels elsewhere. Nevertheless, I marveled at how the money flowed, what is was spent on, and what services were provided. Perhaps you would have as well.

Will September 11, 2006 live in infamy, as did September 11, 2001? Will former Enron employees feel redeemed once the sentences are delivered? Today, May 24, 2006, the verdict is in. Kenneth L. Lay and Jeffrey K. Skilling are guilty, Ken Lay on all counts, Skilling on some. Still to be determined, the sentence. what will their terms be?

I cannot judge, do not have a law degree, a circuit bench, or a judicial post. I am only human and thus offer a human perspective. I am sharing the thoughts and circumstances of three former Enron employees. These narratives were recounted to Steve Hargreaves, staff writer for CNNMoney.com, on January 30, 2006.

I ask that you read these stories, put yourself in the place of these men, read an interview with Former Enron Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Lay. Listen to a speech of his. The Chief will speak of his innocence. Then, you decide; if you had the power to deter, diminish, and eliminate corporate crime, what would you do. What sentence would you deliver?
